Tempe Area Drainage Master Study
Tempe, Arizona
J2 evaluated the 47 square-mile developed urban watershed located within the Cities of Tempe, Phoenix, Chandler, and the Town of Guadalupe. The models included complex surface features and storm drain systems (approximately 3000 catch basins and 150 miles of storm drain systems) so that flood hazards could be quantified and mitigation measures developed (CIP projects). This project assisted in the expansion of the capabilities of the FLO-2D model by evaluating hydrologic parameters, integration of the EPA SWMMM (storm drain) model into FLO-2D, evaluating flood hazard/damage potential of homes within the watershed (HAZUS/HEC-FIA), and developing a procedure to evaluate low impact development (LID) into the FLO-2D model.
