Citrus Vista Park

Chandler, Arizona

Citrus Vista Park is a 10-acre neighborhood park. The neighborhood has embraced this park evident by birthday parties, picnics, sand volleyball, and bocce ball tournaments, pickup games of basketball, flag football and soccer practices, joggers and dog walkers, and families just enjoying recreating outdoors. When the adjacent school dismissal bell rings the park is inundated with children burning off that end of the school day stress – playing tag in the open turf areas, swinging, or challenging themselves on the play equipment’s various nets, posts, and slides. With a name like Citrus Vista Park, developing an aesthetic theme around “citrus” was embraced. The park’s central plaza has brightly colored concrete leaves and citrus fruit. Large concrete spheres of different colors and sizes are clustered around the park and serve as informal seating and gathering areas. Citrus colors of green, yellow and orange are seen throughout the park on playground equipment, tot-lot shade covering, and circular bike racks. The plaza area is flanked by three large turf berms giving the appearance of fruit rising from the earth with the planting in the park done in geometric rows and masses of plants to reinforce the agricultural roots of the City.
